Yuen Wai-Sum

Seat 48C held nine-year-old Yuen Wai-Sum of Hong Kong.  Yuen's eight-year-old best friend, Choi Man-Yee, was devastated nineteen years ago by the widely held belief that everyone on board Flight 007 was dead.  According to a September 5, 1983 report by United Press International, Yee was planning to mail a letter to General Secretary of the Communist Party Yuri Andropov later that day.  It read, in part:  "You are the leader of the Russians, can you tell me why Russians have to kill her?..."

Man-Yee and Wai-Sum were "as close as twin sisters."
